changing a water pump on a 1959 35 hp big twin

Ok have a general knowledge of water pumps but can someone give me some steps? Thanks.

Screws connecting the shaft are imposible to undo are they reversed thred?

No, spray some penetrant on them, was this a salt water motor?

Strange that you can't get the bolt out, your talking the shift linkage through bolt?

Its a screw..... It's the thing inside the shaft. I had to take off 2 cover to get to it. Still isn't comeing off. If it was a bolt I'd probably be done and have the new pump in already lol.

Are you using a flathead or a socket? Never had a problem with a socket getting them out.

There round screws. Not able to use a socket on them. Idk if there original or not.

If you can't get it loose, you'll have to drill it out and re-tap it.

TIP: In order to keep drill filings from falling where you don't want them...
Fill the void will foam shaving cream, drill... then vacuum the foam that has captured your fillings out. Works great on spark plug threads.

Once you get them out, replace them with the proper hex head bolts.

Then someone has replaced them with the wrong screw, they should be hex head bolts , the parts list call them screws for whatever reason but in reality they fine thread bolts.
