I have a 90 horsepower Johnson and the oil pump has gone out. I was wondering if I can disconect the oil pump and mix the oil manually without any damage to the engine.

The cost of the new oil pump was in the 600 dollar range.

Thanks

seems that is done more often than not....

I have three motors that have the oil disconnected...they all have the original fuel pump, but the oil line is plugged and the electrical connections left to dangle.

and you have to mix the oil with your gas in the tank... 50:1

16 ounces per 6 gallons of gas..( pretty sure that is what i remember) well 48:1 any way ha ha ha

Re: oil pump

A lot of folk do it. I did a couple of years ago. Don't know what year your 90hp is though ?? please post the model number.
I have no issues with mine but you do need to make certain that the pump you use has enough output for your motor. Another option is to premix and still use the fuel side of your VRO / OMS pump for the premix. The fuel side is rebuildable.
