Re: Should I paint these?

I would at least apply a good coat of zinc chromate on them, to keep them from rusting. It also wouldn't hurt to paint them with a coat of the same color your motor is.

The last motor I did, I rustoleum'd them black. Wasn't thrilled by how they turned out, Ill paint them come the morning.

What about the hardware? I sandblasted it all clean too, paint?

I would buy new stainless hardware. Use anti-seize when you put it all back together.

Originals were painted with zinc chromate, then the motor was assembled. Then the whole thing was painted. So, the color coat only got on the exposed surfaces. If you want to pre-paint the mounts and make it better than original---your choice.

White - so it's obvious when it needs attention again.

Anything that's been bead blasted like that need painted or it will rust the first time it gets wet.

ok, no can do on the new hardware, WAY to expensive. Some of the special bolts on the thing are $60!

That would be way over my price range. Do you think by sand blasting the SS hardware, I blasted off some kind of anti-rust coating?

Re: Should I paint these?

No stainless steel is all the way thru.

Some, repeat, some stainless steel has enough ferrous metal (iron) that it will develop a surface rust. That kind of stainless is often passivated, a process that removes the iron from the surface to prevent that surface rust. IF it were such a grade of stainless, blasting could have exposed more iron to rust. Yeah, I know, a lot of ifs and maybes here. Paint it and forget it.
