I ran across a 15hp Evinrude I believe to be built in 1956. SN15016 27433
It has good compression and fire. Can I get carb parts anywhere? Is there a plastic float that will replace the cork?

I think you can still get a kit at an OMC dealer which will include a modern float. They are not much higher than an afternarket kit without the float and better quality stuff. Properly set up, these are fine engines.

Yes, I believe your motor is a 1955 or 56. Good motors. Try your local dealor and see if they can get the carb kit. If not, try Vintageoutboards.com.
There is a big list of sources you can find here when others chime in. Good Luck, I hope this helps.:D

Thanks! I got this motor and a 7.5 HP that I think is a couple of years newer today for $35. I'm looking forward to seeing them run.

You got them both for 35 bucks?? Nice job!! That is a very good deal. If you have to spend a little bit on them to tune them up righht, then you'll still be money ahead, especially if these are motors that you plan on keeping and using.

There are a lot of good guys here who are willing to help out and walk you through things to fix them oldies up too.

If you get an OMC carb kit, it will have the float in it. The Sierra kits don't include the float. Interesting - I just bought a kit from Johnnyrude dealer this week. Bombardier and it still had a cork float in it.

Yea, got the two Evinrude's and two old Sears motors for $35. This guy got them out of an old barn when his grandfather passed. I have found out that the 7.5 is a 1955. It looks really good but I started on the 15 and want to finish it before I move on. My brother want's the 15 to go on his john boat. I don't know what I'll do with the old Sears motors, but they look neat. I'm sure I'll be looking for some advice on carb. settings for the 15hp soon. I'll try and post some pics.
