Hi, yall. I have a 1978 115 johnson that I have to keep replacing the starboard side power pack. I had a marine mechanic look at it and he said he tested everything and found out the Ign switch was bad and it was replaced.
This worked for about an hour then same problem, I cleaned all the connections on the motor and the battery. Any other ideas? Im stumped! Thanks guys!

The power pack can be destroyed instantly by any voltage reaching it by riding the kill wire (black with yellow stripe).

Bad ignition coils can destroy the powerpack, so, if they are swollen, cracked, discolored, or if the potting is melted, relace them.

Clean up the ground connections on the ignition system.

Test your rectifier; there are instructions in the Engine FAQ forum.

Thanks for you reply Ezeke. The coils on that side look pretty old, I will check this stuff out and keep everyone updated. :)
