Gearcase seal replacement 40 Evinrude

I have a 1986 40 Hp Evinrude outboard ( Model # E40ECD )that I want to replace the gearcase seals on the prop shaft. What do I need to get the seal carrier out and to replace the seals. The diagram I have shows two bolts that hold the carrier in. My manual doesn't give much help other than saying to remove the two bolts. Can I do this without any special tools.
