Location of engine serial number?

HI guys and girls, I am having difficulty locating the serial number on a Johnson electric shift outboard, the only number I can find is on the top of the head area which is A0071969, I was told that it is a 70 hp, need to order some parts, (dog clutch, water pump and forward gear), thankyou in advance.

It is actually the model number you need but it should be on a plate, along with the serial number, on the transom bracket. It should also be stamped on a core plug somewhere on the cylinder block.

For a variety of reasons either or both of these can go missing

The number you quote looks like a serial number. Possible that a dealer may be able to determine the age and HP from that
