I'd say about 600rpm's on the idle, Coolguy.
Of course, mine idle far lower and NEVER lean sneeze when cold. You need to pull the powerhead and check the resistance of your flux capacitors.

is there really a flux capacitor:confused: timing traveling boat right??!?! gotta get me one of those....

well my 10hp never lean sneezes and idles far lower than my 35hp thats for sure but you can beat the sheer torque and smoothness of the 35

Just jerking your skirt on the flux capacitor coolguy.:)
I find my bigtwins lean sneeze when it's below 40 degrees outside pretty bad for about a minute. My 10's lean sneeze just a little and require a few seconds of choke below 40 degrees as well. But they are far smoother than my big twins, but the 'twins are real stump-pullers.
I would like to have a '57 or '58 35hp myself. All I have are 25hp's.

:eek:lol the stump puller is a fact

well my ten horse maybe since its on a pontoon might be less smooth. 20ft one too:D bit underpowered if you ask me. if gets us and our fishing gear around comfortably just slowly....

well the 1958 35hp has a 1959 hood strangely. but works great.

cant wait to get that tachometer

I sometimes ask my in-laws to hold the plug wire while I spin it over...to test the flux capacitor. When they jump, I know it has flux...and their capacity to pester me in the shop is somewhat reduced. Big Twins rock...you need to post a pix of your old merc coolguy...those old 500's are real workhorses, too.

Yep, I worked on a couple merc 500's. You're right, they are good motors. I think they're one of the best 4 cylinder mercs made. Funny post there, tmcalvy. I must say, coolguy147 picked a great motor to work on here.

yeah the merc500. must say it barely has any hours on it. 128-135 psi compression before i ran it. havent done a decarb on it yet or taken it out for a wide open run yet. haveing bit a trouble of idling on that one too. but first i must check the idle speed that it is at right now.

might ask to get a camera for christmas:rolleyes:
