I've got a dyno, and been hooking up the tach to different motors.

I still havn't found a good way to determine how many poles different motors have. I have a cabinet full of seloc and clymer manuals but it seems that they don't touch on the subject.

The dyno has 10/12/20 pole settings.

Right now I am working on a 72' 85 HP Evinrude and found on the forums it was 12 pole for the 100 HP in that era so I'm guessing it is the same?

Count the pole winding's, divide by two. The winding's being the extended poles on the stator ring.
