Help: 35 Year Old Evinrude

Gentleman,
I'm sure this question has never been asked before! ha

I'm "inheriting" an old tri-hull with 70 hp Evinrude outboard. Tag info: Model 705738 (8 could be a ?B?) and Serial Number J0006792. Listed as 56 cubic inches.

Local boat guy here says don't waste your time - parts not available for the engine any longer. True? I love a project, but don't want to waste my time, money if this is really true...

Absolutely NOT true. Most parts are readily available for that motor. I think it's a B and that's a 1975. It's two years newer than the 85HP that was on the boat I just sold that I had no trouble getting parts for. A great motor actually. The 3 cylinder Johnson/Evinrudes had a great power-to-weight ratio. Good luck with it. The gurus here should be able to help you with any issues you run into.
