Hello Everyone,

I am new to boating and thank you members for a informative site. I am currently working on a 17' center console fishing boat. It has a 89 Johnson VRO 70HP Model J70TLCEM. I will be servicing the lower unit, replacing the gear oil, seals and impeller. The previous owner did not use the VRO and does not have the reservoir and connections for it. I don't mind mixing 50:1. My first question would be, since the VRO pump is in the way to access the shift rod, can I leave the VRO pump off after re-installing L/U.
Second question, in this link http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31 Johnson/evinrude adding a tell tale, second post was an OMC outboard service bulletin, does this pertain to my outboard?
Thank you in advance.

Could not see what you were referring to in the link.
Unless the previous owner left the VRO pump in place and put a premix pump in there as well you must leave the VRO pump in place. That is what is currently pumping your premixed fuel into the carb's.
If you are still in doubt post a photo for us all to see.
Welcome to iboats,
Ken.
