"Reeves" timing question?

My service manual says to set it between 16 and 18. With that said and the FAQ's thread by Reeves says to set it 4 less due to the advance at WOT what would be the best setting? Should I start at 17(I thought splitting the difference would be ok?) and minus 4 and set it at 13 or minus 4 from the 16 or 18?? What number would you real mechanics advise to go with?? Thanks for your time..Hank

I have a 1995 50 HP LEOS 3 cylinder 2 stroke.

17 IS BETWEEN 16 - 18, 13 IS BETWEEN 12 AND 14. Joe's method works very well and is simple.

Then I will try 13 to start out with. How does that sound? I should be able to work on the motor tomorrow after kids soccer and lunch..Thanks for the info..Hank
