Old fuel left in a 3 gal omc tank has gone bad. Some rust in the bottom of the tank. Should I fool with trying to clean it or just trash it and get a plasatic tank?

Re: rusty tank

personally i would get a plastic tank, less hassle, never rust again, plus even if you think you have it clean it could still pick up some fine dirt to clogg your carb

Re: rusty tank

Mine got so rusty, not to mentioned varnished from old gas, I finally trashed it. I'm all plastic for portable tanks now.

New tank and (if you don't already have them) ethanol resistant fuel hoses.

Re: rusty tank

If it was a old dual line tank I would restore it with Kreem. If its a single line just replace it as it is not cost effective to restore it. I have had (and helped) several customers restore the old tanks. This is great stuff and used in old motorcycles and vintage cars....

Re: rusty tank

Thanks all. The rusty, varnish coated tank is in the trash. I'll get a plastic one soon.
