Temperature guage for 1966 60hp Johnson

Since my outboard has no telltail is it possible to set up an aftermarket temperature guage? It has the overheat light but would rather monitor before the engine becomes toast from a faulty light. Also what is the appropriate temp range for this engine?

I alway's felt that a horn was a much better warning signal.
