I have a Johnson (possibly a Seahorse) motor, 3 or 3.5hp, possibly circa 1950's Model # JW10 Serial # 1069583. Is there a source on the web to research this motor?
thanks

JW-10, built 1952-54 and made for many years with minor modifications. The Antique Outboard Motor Club is a good place to get aquainted with. You might even want to take in a local meet.

A bit more: Uses Champion J6C plugs gapped at .030", Set points at .020".

Latest instructions from BRP is to use a 20:1 fuel mix. TC-W3 oil and regular unleaded.

That is a truly great little engine. No other small outboard is even in the same league as the JW and its derivatives.

Wow I am pleased to hear that these '53 Johnsons are that highly regarded since I am getting on on thursday, a 5hp.:D It starts on the first pull after getting new points, water pump, lower unit seal and new plugs at the dealer. I'd like to be able to work on it myself in the future though.

The 20:1 applies to the entire series I would assume? I've been told that synthetic oil is great in 2 strokes but would never try it unless I see it done successfully.

Congrats on the new(to you) outboard and good luck with her.
