Does anyone know what is good compression for this motor?
I was told that the normal is 90 to 100 psi for this model.
I find that questionable! Am I correct?

The most important thing is that they are the same across all six. Gauges are inacurate, so you do not know the exact compression. So, if it is 100PSI+ and even, you are good.

Let me understand this correctly. If the compression range is 90 to 100
then it is not a good motor to buy. Since you said 100+ is good.

In order to understand the compression numbers you need to understand the design. Those motors have fairly high exhaust port timing so they won't show a lot of static compression. High exhaust port timing is where they get a lot of power from. With stock heads 90-95 is normal. As long as all 6 are within 15 lbs it'll be fine. One side may be slightly higher overall compared to the other overall. That's also normal.

Re: 1999 Evinrude 200 Vindicator compression

Isn't a 1999 200 a FICHT motor? Wouldn't that change things a bit regarding the compression question? I totally agree with the answers if it were a pre 1998 or so looper....but maybe different for a FICHT?
I do see a E200WPXEEN model, but don't have a clue what the "W" signifies.

I don't know so I am asking....

A 99 Vindicator is a 3 liter, closed deck, carb'd V6. The 200W should be a "work" or "commercial" model.

Well, I see mainly E200F...models when looking on BRPs site. F means FICHT?
The only other is a E200W as I posted. Is the Vindicator the "W" model?
And the parts for the "W" model DO show that it is a looper, carbed.

But also, the compression question....should the answer be different for a FICHT engine vs. a looper, carb'ed model. I thought fichts needed 120 +

Re: 1999 Evinrude 200 Vindicator compression

W or commercial models run a slightly lower compression and different gear box, it can turn a bigger wheel, slightly slower top rpm but gobs of torque if you so desire. 90 psi is excellent. Mine runs 83-85.

Re: 1999 Evinrude 200 Vindicator compression

You are correct on the work engine as compression is lowered to run crappy fuels and lower cylinder temps as the gearcase goes all engines use the same ratio 1.86 unless it a high alt unit which is 2.1
