1996 Evinrude 200hp Vindicator "Surging"

This motor is using a lot of oil and surges at around 3500 rpm, usually after its been running down the lake a little while. Thanks for any help.

Look for a leak in the fuel lines.
If air leaks into the fuel feed lines the vro will draw more oil to compensate.
Pump the bulb firm and use a flashlight to go over all the hoses and coupler areas, around clamps, look for fuel wet areas on the hose or any dripping.

Does the vro warning system work, you should get a beep when the ignition is turned on, if the warning system isn't working you could be ruining the engine and not know.
