How to disassemble the gearcase on a 35hp 1980 evinrude?

I am stuck on what to do. I am trying to figure out how to take out the dog clutch and the rest of the gears and bearings. Can anyone share some info on what to do?

From experience you really want the manual, I have rebuilt a lower 3 times both with mix and match gears and a new gear set and none of them lasted very long.

The tolerances are so tight ti is reall yhard to get them right without the correct tools.

There was a big snap ring on mine that was holding all the stuff in but oyu need some really long snap pliers to get it out.

Might I ask why you want to take it apart??

The lower drain plug came out and it filled with mud, so I am taking it apart to replace the barrings behind the upper gear.
