1976 Evinrude 85HP - Pee Hole - Tell Tale - Installed

I have recently purchased a 1976 Evinrude 85HP and I hooked the muffs up to it to run it.
I fired it up and it was running, but it wasn't peeing.
So I shut it down.
I looked all around, but i could not find a pee hole.

I looked at another engine (1976 Johnson 135) and looks almost identical, but is has a pee hole in the base at the rear.

Am I not looking in the right location?
Thanks for your help.

it does not have one. it has exhaust relief ports on the back of the leg, at idle you should get droplets and mist out of these ports. one can be added fairly easily. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=222677

Part 1
Well I finally got around to adding the tell tale on my 1976 Evinrude 85 HP engine.

Here are some pics.

My engine did not have the bung as in the pictures shown in iwombat's post

Here is the hole I drilled and tapped at the top of the block next to the #1 cylinder.

I used a 1/8 NPT brass nipple instead of the right angle OEM outlet elbow.

Before adding the bulk head hole.

The bulk head hole that I drilled. I did not have a 11/16 drill bit so I drilled the biggest hole that I could and then used a rat tail file to make space for the bulk head fitting to fit into place.

I have had a few people email me about this.
I did it just as reassurance that the water pump was working vs. waiting until the Temperature horn went off.

Being pretty mechanically inclined it was rather easy to install.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,

I've been meaning to add this little warning to the FAQ . . .

If that's a salt water motor, you definitely want to use the OEM plastic fitting and not the bronze fitting. You'll get electrolysis between the two metals and eventual failure. In fresh water, I don't think it's that much of an issue.

Very Nice Job I have to say. But then again I am also brand new to Outboards. But I hope not for too long. :)
