1961 Johnson Seahorse 75hp won't go into reverse

Bell crank checks good. Adjusted the linkage per manual. Thought I had it. But, it only went into reverse a few times this weekend. Then stopped doing it all together. No prob getting into forward gear. Thanks

Those motors have a lot of linkage points. They each wear a bit, until the shifting is sloppy. Also, the shift cradle inside the gearcase could be worn as well. You may as well inspect the cradle, and make sure you have idenitified all the linkage points, even the one under the outer shell of the midsection.

Sorry. But, this seems to be the only way to start a thread right now. The brush in my old cap busted in two. Just was wondering if it's possible just to replace the brush and spring. Or do I need to replace the whole cap? Thanks in advance for all your responses.
