Motor location on transom, 14' Jon boat

Sorry if this is the wrong forum...there really wasn't a place for a engine related, but not specific to brand. I also searched for a bit...so sorry if this is a FAQ.

Anyway, the PO mounted the motor slightly off center. I am trying to affix a transom saver. Due to the construction of the trailer, I have to attach an actual bracket to the trailer to accept the arm of the transom saver. That is when I noticed that the motor is off center.

It was probably done to allow room for the trolling motor as seen just to the side of the picture. But, I am about to drill holes in the trailer...so I thought I would ask first if I should have the motor in the center.

Absolutely, yes the motor needs to be centered on the transom of the boat.

Well, the transom is not in the best of shape. It has already been reinforced/repaired. Do you think their might be a reason why the PO put it off center?

repair the transom, center the motor.
