:confused:Recently a friend of mine gave me a 1957 evinrude 7.5 .He said that he got it a while back and it fired right up,first pull. He didn't like the tank setup because it was "dangerous".I get it home and can get no spark . tried timing light, grounded spark plug test and even my finger inside the spark plug wire. Nothing!Tested both wires .Looked under the flywheel and its clean .I noticed that he was fiddling with the throttle control and was wondering if there was some kind of switch or something as I have never had an old engine like this.Could use some help.I really like this old engine.

Re: Vintage evinrude won't fire

some have a mercury switch that keeps it from starting when the throttle is turned too fast.
