I just bought outboard Johnson 6HP 1976
I am trying to adjust the idle but not response no matter how I tight it all the way
The engine rev still running high
Would any know if this part is bad or good
Speed needle
Well, unfortunately it looks like the tip of the needle is broken off in the carb by over tightening it. If the seat is not ruined, the carb may be able to be salvaged.
possibly not, i would do a linc n sinc before buying carb parts. try spraying carb cleaner throw the port, with the plastic tube, see if it comes out the barrel of the carb. if it does come out then the port is clear.
^^^^^^........ With Tashasdaddy. Spray through. If Clear, the tip has fallen out. Get a replacement needle.
If the port was blocked by the tip it shouldn't Idle at all.(stall)
I am sorry, but I can not publish new thread for some reason.
Can anybody tell me how much is the difference in service/mainetnance of my J4BRHCTA vs the same model in 1981?
I can get factory manual for 1981 model (for about $20) but for 1983 it comes only as a grouped manual for many years and many models and it will cost me about $70.
Maybe try Klaus Marine in Toronto. I've got parts for my old 6HPs there before. If not, there was a place in N. Toronto where I got parts for old Johnsons too but I can't remember the name. Klaus might know.
I doubt you could grind that needle to the proper profile. Just hope the seat isn't already ruined. When you get a new needle, also get new packing washers for the gland that fits around it because they are certain to be worn and leaking.
