I inherited the family boat. It is one year younger than me! It still has the original 1961 Tach, it works and appears to be accurate.
Originally the tach was wired to the 1961 75HP Evinrude but when the motor was replaced by the 1984 115HP the tach was never wired to it. Instead the tach has only been wired to the 1967 18HP Evinrude kicker since 1984.
I would like to use the same tach and toggle between the 18HP and 115HP since I rarely use both motors at the same time. Money is not a real issue but there is not much or any room to add a tach on the dash and I dont want to disturb or remove the original tach.
Can this same tach from the 1961' 75HP Rude be used on the 1984' 115HP Rude?

If you have a switch for numbers of cyllinders on the back of the tach, you should switch it to the relevent number of cyllinders of the engine, and it should work.

Do I have this right, you won't to toggle between the 18, and 85 using the same tach. No!

The 1961 tach would be for magneto ignition and will not work with the '84. The '84 requires a tach that gets it's signal from the alternator. On the bright side, there are alternator tachs all over the place, but magneto tachs are no longer made and are getting very hard to find and are worth some $$$. Wanna sell it?

Sorry... I don't wanna sell the tach as I would prefer to keep the original equipment intact as best I can.
I guess I will have to try to find a small tack and make room to mount it. I had really wanted a large tach like the original and not digital to kinda keep with the early 60's vintage look. Thanx for the response. At least I now have a set course of direction. :)
