Johnson low speed needle setting

Gentlemen: What is the correct starting setting for the low speed needles on a 94 looper 50HP Johnson model J50TLERE?

Needles are now set at 2 1/4 turns out and that seems excessive.

1-1/4 turns to start with. You're right; 2-1/2 seems like alot.

I rebuild them all, even UGH! Mercs. People come to me by recommendation and I can't refues. Guy needed two pistons .020 over. Sweet little engine. Could not get my hands on a manual an short notice though. Guess I'll need to break down and buy one.
