age and advise on johnson 25hp

given a boat with johnson 25hp J25TELEDA. Can you tell me age and any other tips I should know. Getting ready to see if it starts. As you can see by the cadet ranking I am new to boating. thanks

TE = tiller, electric start
L= longshaft (20")
ED = 1996

Check, clean, reset or replace plugs
Check compression if you have tester or if any trouble
Check spark
Check/top up gear lube. Suspect seals if any signs of water (milkiness)

Pump impeller maybe if not known when last changed.

Give it a try in a tub and check water flow

Take it out for a spin check for overheating
