1974 evinrude 40hp ignition switch

hope someone can help me color on the wires
blue
blue w/white
violet w/white
white
red w/violet
the switch letters are b,m,s,a,g
tried to put them on can get the motor started but won't stop when i turn the key off any help will be appreciated thanks

Purple/red = battery "B"
White = start "S"
blue = kill wire "M"
blue/white = other kill wire "G"
purple/white = choke (goes to choke switch)

Should also be a jumper from other side of choke switch to "A"

i tried what you said the motor started right up but will not shut off any other way to wire it thanks

Touch the blue and blue/white wires together---should stop the engine. If it doesn't, there is a wiring problem between there and the ignition system on the motor.

If touching them together does stop it but the switch doesn't, the switch is wired wrong or faulty.
