Re: '99 Johnson 150 EFI new powerhead
The early Ficht engines very problematic for the old OMC. It was probably one of the reasons why they went bankrupt in 1999. The 60-degree 150 and 175's were the bulk of the problem. They have a very poor reputation up through 1999, which was the last year OMC was in business. The 2000 models and up are Bombardier-produced and are OK. OMC issued a number of service bulletins regarding these early ficht engines, requiring mods to be performed on the engines to improve reliability. You need to know if their service mods were performed on that original serial number engine. If not, it could be a problem. Having said all that, many 60-dgree engines have gone for years with no problem. Typically these engines have a very low resale value.
