I have been given a 1996 Johnson seahorse 3hp (model: j3revc) from my grandfather (it was just sitting in his barn, not sure how long). The engine runs, but seems a little sluggish, so I want to change the spark plugs, clean carb? but I do not know what the gap should be for the plugs, could someone please help?

Thanks

your motor runs champion QL86C or QL77Jc4 spark plugs and they should be gapped at .30

As TD says, .030", NOT .30"

Over the years OMC specified .040", then .030". If you have any trouble with the plugs fouling try .035" or .040". The "spec" setting is .030".
