Looking for Paint Color Spec - '52 Johnson 3hp JW-10

Hello All,

I'm attempting to restore a 52-54 Johnson 3hp outboard motor to it's original color. I've attached a picture of the motor that reflects the original light green paint color.

Tips or Tricks on locating the exact paint color, brand, type, etc - all greatly appreciated.

I believe it is called the Green NAPA Sea Mist Metallic #7815.

Logical next question, do you have a source for the NAPA Sea Mist Metallic #7815? Quick Google Search did not return any hits.

Failing that you might try nymarine.ca. Kind of expensive but it looks worth it to me. When I start the cosmetic restorations on mine I will get the paint here.

If you have any of the original paint left on the motor another alternative would be to take it to an auto paint shop. They can 'scan' the color and usually get it right on the money. Done it several times - all with wonderful success.

I can vouch for the quality of the paint and match-up at nymarine.ca. I have seen his (Pete McDowell) work in person and the paint match is great. I picked up some cream and some Holiday Bronze from him for my '58 and was very pleased. My 1950 TN is due any time from him, painted the earlier Sea Green that was used 1946-1951.

There may be other sources, but that one is a known good one.

Good luck with the JW-10, John. I love the scanned 1953 ad you attached. I have that same advertizement somewhere in the house. A peer of my father's owned a perfect 1953 3-horse (completely original and unrestored). Around the same time I found that very ad in a Sports Afeild magazine from 1953. Dad wanted to rip it out and hang it above the motor but I discouraged it. Decades later I wonder where that motor is today?
