Evinrude Zephyr ???

I see someone down in my town is sellin a 1940's Evinrude Zephyr, not sure of hp but is wantin $100 for her,she runs but needs a recoil tlc. Anyone know about these motors???

The Zephyr is notable for one thing - it is the smallest 4-cylinder outboard motor ever produced. Outside of that, they are kind of an odd duck. The carburetors can be tempermental (rebuild kit?? not likely.) and as noted in your post, the recoils can be a problem. They make a good conversation piece, but if you're looking for a vintage motor to use as a runner, there are better choices...

Head over to www.aomci.org and ask in their Ask a Member forum. There are more guys over there who know Zephyrs than in any other place on the web. I also see lots of Zephyr parts for sale in their classified section.

I'd like to have one myself, but I need reliable power on my little boat. It would be very cool, though, to have a 4-cylinder 5.4 hp outboard running the boat.
