Johnson 175 stuck or seized in one spot

Hi all, My 175 started knocking so I shut it down and could not restart. I took off the lower leg and pulled the plugs. I can hand turn the engine backwards ok but it stops at one point going forward. There is no external damage and each piston moves in and out. Any thoughts on how far I will have to tear this one down?

If that motor is a crossflow, you can pull the transfer covers and maybe see the damage. If not, you will need to tear it down completely and check the rods and crank for bending.

Thanks for your input, its a 1987 with 550 hours on it. Not sure how to tell if it is a cross fire?

By the year you state it is a looper not a cross flow, however you should wait for an expert opinion from someone else, this is just my opinion from my 1985 V4 140 hp being one of the first "loopers"

Your engine is a cross flow. the 120 and 140 were loopers but the v6 was still cross flow. Tear it down. What do you have to loose? It will have to come down to all the way to be repaired.
