Got this HA-10 started, ran about 5 minutes, doesn't seem to be pumping any water, but I don't see any water inlet or outlet. Also it won't idle.
Any Help would be apperciated.
Don't know what I'm doing.

You'll find good help here but mostly for the 50's on. You should try the aomci.org site. They deal with the oldies much more.

That's a 1940 model, so it probably doesn't have what we know as a water pump per se, probably just a suction circuit. May be some slots/openings around the prop somewhere on the gear case. It needs forward motion to feed water into the circuit so don't run it too long in a barrel or it will overheat. You'll have to adjust the rich/lean needle everytime you move the throttle, to adjust the mixture to the sweet spot. If it runs good fast, you'll probably have to richen it to get a good, decent idle. Take care of that puppy.

Re: Johnson 1940 HA-10 2.5 hp

Hey guys,

I have a 1940 HA 15 that I'm trying to bring back to life. Hoping someone could help me with a few questions.

What the gas/oil mix, and how to prepare it?
Does it need to be in water to run?
Is there a lower gear oil on the propeler shaft, and what oil is it?
How to set the pins correctly for air, and gas on the carbuerator?
Any info would be helpful. Thanks
