This is my first post here. I've had a diesel in my boat for 20 years, but I recently picked up a smaller plastic sailboat, 23' 4,300#, w/ a bad inboard so I hung an outboard on the stern. Last season, I borrowed a Nissan 9.9 and, while it moved me around, I didn't feel like I had anything in reserve. My research says that a high thrust 9.9 would work. Which brings me to my question.

I'm going to go look at a 1997 Evinrude 9.9 this afternoon. The guy I spoke with on the phone said it was a High Thrust model, model no. E10FRELEUA. How do I know if it's HT?

I gather some HT motors have a different gear ratio, some just have a different prop. What does a '97 Evinrude HT have?

4300 lbs, is a lot of boat for a 9.9. most are using 15hp for trolling motors on that weight power boat.
