I found what may turn out to be an affordable deal on a motor that looks pretty good and would fit my needs, with one problem... it has a tiller. It's a Johnson. I'm wondering if it's possible to convert from an electric start tiller to the full remote control and steering, and what I'll be up against if it is.

99% of them yes, what motor. most you can get a conversion kit, from dealer. or rig one your self. what steering system do you have. you need steering. connection link. remote throttle and shift, and cables. wiring harness.

I as of yet have none of the above, so maybe it would have been easier since I can buy compatible stuff?

Oh well, it's all moot now... it became unaffordable quickly.

Back to searching for a something affordable... :)

Depends on the year and hp. If you want electric start then look for a motor that already has it. Electric start came as an option with the Big Twins starting in 1954 and the 15 (18) hp starting in 1956. All of them are set up for controls - tillers included.
