iv got an evinrude sportfour electric start i belive its 75 hp or somwhere around there its on a boat i just got. its been sitting about 2 years sense it was last ran. the guy said it ran fine but the motor wouldent charge the batterys. im going to be getting it running again soon what should i look at for fixing the charging system.

If it's a sport four, does it have the belt driven generator? Do you have a model no.?

it has what looks like a belt drivin distributer

We really need a model no. here. Those engines had a belt driven dist., or mag. A belt driven generator, or a under flywheel alternator.

recheck the model # 505 ? 3 there are 50 hp and 75 hp with the other numbers, but none with the 3rd "5"

yeah the closest I could find was the 1960 model,

That would have a belt driven magneto at the rear. The generator kit was an optional accessory, and if it has one it is another belt driven unit looking similar to the electric starter. Most motors don't have one.
