Hey folks, Newbie here.

I am about to buy a low hours 2000 model Johnson 115.(guy traded up to a 4 stroke) I know this is just pre Bombadier. Is this a reliable engine overall. You all have them and work on them. Can I get parts etc.
Thanks alot!!!

Parts will not be a problem. Do a compression check, check the lower unit for water or metal flakes.Run the engine and shift in and out of gear. By the way make sure all the cylinders are within 15psi of each other. 100 psi would be good for a used motor. Anything less its your call.Maybe someone else can think of some more things.

i have the same model and never had a problem yet but i bought my new never ben used and yes its ben sitting there for 7 years and it had a few bees nests in there. parts will be around for another 75+ years so dont worry about that.and OMC outboards were really easy to fix or tune up or even make go faster.and that guy is going to be sorry that he traded it for a 4 stroke when he puts the throttle to the wall and hes going to be like wtf my OMC went so and so MPH faster.what size boat are you putting it on??and its not a FITCH RAM is it??????

I do not believe it is a FICTH. The dealer that took it in on trade said it runs smooth and quiet. Not a scratch on it. I am puting it on a 20 foot crestliner SST II. I have a 92 Merc 100 on it which ran it well, but I was puting repair dollars into it as fast as gas! I have 3 other older(1984) OMC engines that are still running well, so I am a fan of the Johnson, Evinrude.
Thanks for all your help!

BB - I do not think Johnson made any FICHT motors in '2000. I have a '98 Johnson 150, which is the V-6 version of that motor(six carbs). I have only had it since Dec, but is has shown itself to be extremely powerful.

I am in the market for a Johnson 115Hp for my speedboat, since I blew up my merc 1500 last week.

BB- The model number will tell you if it is FICHT. If it is J115E-something(4 digits more) it is not Ficht. i think it would need to be J115F-something to be a FICHT.

you may be right on that one chris i know evinrude was making the FITCH models all the way up to 2000.i also have a 150 HP V6, 6 carb and man is it powerful. correct me if im wrong but is OMC the only company to make a 150 V6,6 carb is see plenty of mercs and yamah 150-175 HP with V4's
