Hi, as you may already know I am rebuilding a Johnson, the manual calls for "Gel Seal",
I believe loctite 518 is a simular product, is this correct?
Secondly can loctite 515 be used instead? Has anyone used 515 as apposed to 518?
What do You guys use to seal crankcases, any recomendations?

Any reply would be much appreciated

Thankyou

Gel Seal is a Loctite product.I don't know what number. Why do you want to experiment?
Lots of labor if you are wrong.

Thats a good point, if no one can tell me that 515 is acceptable I wont risk using it, even if it is ok.
thanks

Permatex bought out Loctite and the new number for 518 is Permatex #51813

Further note regarding grades of Loctite.
515 is basically a gasket maker for cover plates, oil pans, thermostat housings etc.
518 is also a gasket maker but suited for gearbox and transmission type applications.

Sorry, got it backwards. Loctite owns Permatex. Reguardless, Permatex 51813 is gel seal, Loctite 518 is the same stuff
