E'rude XP 150 Crossflow vs Johnson 200 Looper

I have a 79 E'rude XP150 that runs great and a friend of mine has an 88 Johnson GT 200 that also is in good condition. He wants to trade motors b/c the 200 is too much motor for his boat. My question is two fold: Which of these two tends to be a better motor, and what kind of fuel consumption difference would I see typically? Should I take him up on this or keep my 150?

The stock 3 liter looper will make more torque than the crossflow ever could. By a longshot. If I owned a 150 crossflow and someone made me that offer he'd have footprints all over him from me running over him to get the swap done before he came to his senses.

If you're worried about it, tell him I'll trade him my '89 XP150 for his '88 GT200. I might even offer to throw in a new stainless prop!

Ok, I get ya. Other question is whether the weight difference would be significant on an 18ft bass boat.

Oh, also, longevity wise, any significant difference in the motors? Ie, would the crossflow or looper last longer typically, and what difference would I see in fuel consumption?

Man you need to do some serious listening to Mr. Hadley. Man speaks truth, was an OMC dealer (per his own admission.....the blue one d:) , and knows his stuff.

Having been on both sides myself, I will not own an I/O or a crossflow engine......period. :|

Thanks fellows. I appreciate the advice. I'll see if I can swap before the other fellow wakes up...

Oh, one more question. The guy put Boysen reeds in the Looper. They're in good shape, but how long will they last and how hard is it to change them when they need changing, or what does it cost to have it done? Boysen reeds a good thing or bad thing?
