what are the differences between the RDE-19 and RJE-19 1957 javelin motors?

are the lower units interchangeable?

I just blew my forward gear (+clutch dog) in an RJE-19 1957 35hp javelin. It was a slow ride home in reverse.

Can I replace the lower unit with an RDE-19 lower unit?

what's the differences between the two models?

Is one the "javelin", and the other the "not javelin"?

trim, as in cosmetics. Lower units will interchange on a 1957.

Same motor, but the Javelin has the gold paint and extra chrome do-dads to rattle and squeak. But it is highly sought after by collectors, one of the most valuable of the classic motors---if it is complete and in good cosmetic conditon. Take care of it and don't lose any of the do-dads.

First time on this blog
I just got a Golden Javelin and I think it's running and almost compleet. The pull rope cover is mising but I think otherwise it's good.
I have some questions about value--history--parts and so forth.

Value is how much a potential buyer is will to pay on any given day. Could be $5, could be $500. Parts are still readily available for the old OMC's. Run down the list in the Top Secret File at the top of this forum and let us know if your old Javelin is indeed in running trim. We use PM's on this board to swap info off of the forum.
