I have a 1996 Nitro 150 HP Johnson outboard. The voltage regulator shorted out. I ordered a new one from Johnson. It's replacement 439561 has one less wire coming out of the top than the original one. Other than this they are identical. As there were 2 wires that connected to wires on the engine and this one has only 1. Do I hook the one wire to the 2 leads on the engine block, or do I hook the yellow wire to the red or green wire on the engine block and forget one or the other?

Re: 1996 Johnson 150 hp voltage regulator

I think the original regulator had both a direct connection to the battery +ve (red wire) plus a switched 12V feed (red/purple wire). They did away with the switched 12V feed as the regulator gets 12v from the red wire anyway. So the red/purple wire on your engine block doesn't need to be connected to the regulator anymore. Don't join the red & red/purple wires together. The yellow & yellow/grey wires come from the stator windings.
