Evinrude fuel mixture

Just bought a 25ph evinrude. Not sure of the year but the boat was a 1989 so that is close. A decal where you plug the gas line in indicates fuel mixture of 100 to 1. Can that be correct as most mixtures seem to be 50 to 1.

OMC tried that and gave it up quickly. Use 50:1 87 Octane Gasoline to TCW-3 Oil.

My '88 48 SPL also calls for 100:1. I've heard that 100:1 is ok *IF* you use your motor regularly and avoid any prolonged operation at or near full throttle. Is this true? Also, is it ok to run at a compromise mixture of say, 60:1 or 70:1?

If the manufacturer says to ignore the sticker and use 50:1 it doesn't seem like a tough decision to me.<br /><br />Junkyards are full of outboards that used to belong to people who thought they knew more than the people who made them.

You make sense, JB & ezeke. I've heard that from other boaters at the ramp and on other forums. For the record, I do always run 50:1. However, or OMC to ever recommend 100:1 there must have been some research/experimentation done by them to support that initially. 50:1 is probably the "least common denominator" mixture that would keep everyone safe under a wide variety of operating conditions, but I was just wondering if there were some specialized situations where 100:1 might actually be ok. If we all run 50:1 anyway, this discussion is, admitedly, mostly academic.
