I am repairing a 1971 johnson 40 hp with new points and condensors for a friend. I was wondering if any one knew what to torque the nut on the flywheel to?

Thanks

My '88 40 HP takes 105 pounds on a clean dry crankshaft. The manual also specifies "OMC gasket sealer" as threadlocker, although I'm sure you could use locktite or whatever. Have fun.

105 ft/lbs is correct for the 71 too. No need to use any sort of threadlocker at all. Like fishnfiend said, it's important that the flywheel crankshaft taper and crankshaft be free of oil & grease.

yikes....old thread! but do not use any loc tite or similiar product on the taper or flywheel, just polish it a bit and torque down.
