The motor would not run except low speed...after adjusting carb, checked plugs, one had the gap closed. Put in a spare plug and it run great. I took it out the next day and it would not run except at low speed again...plugs were fouled but they were gapped. I put new plugs in but still no change...low speed only. What is the gap suppose to be for j4c champion. 1966 Johnson 33hp model# RXE-14?

Re: 1966 Johnson 33hp spark plug gap

It has been specified at .030" and at .040" at different times, MK.

I suggest .030" for sustained high speed operation, .040" for low speed and trolling. Others might suggest .035" if you are getting a lot of fouling and I wouldn't argue with them.

Good luck. :)
