I'm getting ready to winterize my boat/outboard for the first time and I think I have everything I need to do it properly but I have a question about residual water left in the motor. I live in a cold climate and my boat will be stored in an unheated garage for the winter. Do I have to worry about any residual water left in the motor somewhere freezing and causing damage?

Not an expert, but pretty sure any water in the engine will drain out the small drain holes in the foot/mid-section so you don't need to worry about that..
Last winter was my first with a boat. My engine (1971 50hp Johnson) is kept on the boat outside, Tilted down (as if on the water) and it did fine..
The usual fogging, change lower gear oil and put a bag over prop so critters don't get into the exhaust is what I did..

Going to follow along on this though in case I missed anything.. lol

As long as the motor is left in the down position there's nothing to worry about. This assumes you checked the lower unit to ensure there's no water in the oil.
