not the source of the leak, though. I would pressure test the gearcase and see if I could locate the leak. Need a small pump (hand or foot pump) -- I use an inflation needle and a piece of gasket material. Insert and hold the needle in the vent or drain hole, drained gearcase immersed in a tub. Look for bubbles. Low pressure -- maybe 6 or 8 lbs.

Major leak point is the shift rod o-ring.----There is room for 2 of them so I install 2.

fair enough. Just don't blow out seals with your compressor. Should add that the l.u. needs to be removed before dunking -- maybe obvious, but wasn't said.

Air is coming out from part# 57, I think you may be right that it is the driveshaft seal. Does that seem right?

Think that's likely. Remove the water pump assembly and pressure test again. I use either the drain or vent hole to pressurize -- inflation needle through a piece of rubber gasket (hold in place with your finger).
