1962 Evinrude 5.5hp water pump

Hey thanks to all of you I finally got the old gal running but noticed no water was comming out of the hole half way up the impeller looked ok when I had lower unit off could there be another issue like faulty thermostat I only ran the motor for about 30 seconds for fear of damaging it any help in this area would be appreciated.

Do you have it in a tank with the water level about 6" above the impeller?

I had it in tank with the water level 3 inches above what I believe is the water intake plate so I guess I didn't have the water high enough??
