But what does that have to do with the number on the disk pressed into the block? G2257615 <- the Evinrude contributor said this was my serial number and extrapolated the model number from it - no clue how he / she came to that which is why I asked for someone here to verify.

(I already bought a service manual based on what they said - God I hope they're right!!!!)

The other community provided a model number based on x-ref on the serial number. Can't speak to that, just how you get the year from the model number.
