1992 evinrude intruder 150 power pack

We replaced the power pack and stator. Still missing cylinders 3 and 5 with new power pack. Neutral shift switch not an issue. New powerpack seems to have melted internally. Plastic melted after install. We're scared to I stall the new powerpack. Any ideas why power packs are failing?

We also put the analyzer on the optical timing sensor and it was all over the place good and bad.
