Just inherited a 79 challenger bass boat with 85 Evinrude. Motor has very few hrs on it. It was last ran in 16. We filled tanks with fresh gas and headed to river. Motor cranks, idles great. Ran awesome for around 4 miles or so. Finally at full throttle or 3/4 started bogging down. Pumping bulb did not help. Idle back to shore and checked filter and all lines which seemed to be fine. Any suggestions ? We have the carbs off now and will check them. Thanks in advance

Don't know about head temp or compression yet. Did pull plugs and lower two were running lean. Have pulled carbs and the bottom one did have a lot of trash, gunk in it. We were expecting this as it had sat up a long time. Got carbs cleaned and will replace all fuel lines as all this is needed anyway. Will check compression. Hope to be able to go to river this weekend and see if it runs ok. Will report later. Thanks for the help

Fact-----It is not a good idea to run an outboard like that if you suspect carburetor trash / blockage !----No fuel going in means no oil to the bottom 2 cylinders.

Thanks racerone, we have not run it with it acting this way. Just took it out and it ran fine for about 4 miles or so. We were just doing circles close to boat ramp. When it starting shutting down we just idled back to boat ramp. Got the carbs cleaned and replaced all lines and will take back to river to see if problem is fixed
